Port Adelaide’s assistant manager Michael Voss admits he remains interested in becoming a senior manager again, but has downplayed the links between him and North Melbourne who may be on the lookout for a new senior manager.
North Melbourne confirmed earlier this month that Shaw had “taken time and space” from football, while veteran journalist Caroline Wilson said Footy classified on Monday night that Shaw “won’t be training north again” and that the club would reach out to Voss to take on the role.
Voss, who coached his former club Brisbane for five years, moved to Port Adelaide as midfield manager in the second half of 2014. He was asked further SEN SA If he was interested in the job at North, he should open up.

“From my point of view, I’ve worked with Chris and Ken on what the next year looks like for me, and we’re working through the details of what that looks like. From my point of view, it’s Port Adelaide, ”he said.
“I love what I do here, I love the role I played this year and I really enjoyed working with the players and all the work I do in this area, so we will too continue to do. “
In the past, Voss has made no secret of his wanting another senior coaching opportunity, but he cautioned people jumping to conclusions about his future.
“I think the big thing here is whenever you announce that you want to be a senior coach, a lot of people think that tomorrow it means,” he said.
“I think we all have ambitions. I don’t think there are too many coaches right now who, under the right circumstances, wouldn’t be senior coaching. For me that has been said well and truly, I don’t think it needs to be repeated again.
“But that doesn’t mean it’s tomorrow and there’s a lot to consider in trying to take such a move.”

In order to stop the high payouts for dismissed senior trainers, the AFL introduced a new guideline at the end of 2019 that provided for a dismissal of a maximum of six months for all dismissed trainers at AFL level, regardless of their contract duration.
The new guideline was criticized by several members of the coaching fraternity, and Voss was another who strictly contradicted the current setup.
“If I were to put on a coaching association hat now I wouldn’t really see how that fits in with what it should be, but it definitely seems to be the way the AFL is doing right now,” he said.
“You really need to review your position on this.”
