The announcements of the President of the Republic will determine the decisions of the FFF on the pursuit of amateur football activities.

Tonight at 8 p.m., the world of amateur football will hold its breath when Emmanuel Macron will speak. The President of the Republic will indeed indicate the additional measures that will be taken to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. But it is already certain that new restrictions will be announced.

Yesterday evening, France Inter announced that the Government favored “A national reconfinement, with professional exemptions and schools which remain open”. Which would mean that sports competitions would stop altogether. But schools and colleges should remain open, which would mean that clubs could perhaps keep the activities of football schools and in certain youth categories.

A priori, the French Football Federation did not have this information. And according to L’Equipe, the information coming from the Elysee Palace did not mention these restrictions either. “The federations will have to decide according to the health scenarios selected” explained a relative of the President of the Republic. A lot of information leaks out but also lots of rumors. The craziest one indicated a stoppage of competitions until the month of… April! It is not so.

Very shared amateur football

In the event of the return of confinement throughout the territory, there will be no debate on the continuation of amateur sport. If the curfew is generalized, or even lowered to 7 p.m., this still allows to leave a small window so that the sport does not stop. But there will be the problem of training because it will be impossible for clubs to organize sessions. If a movement restriction is chosen, it will surely stop the national and regional championships.

The world of amateur football is very divided on a break from competition. On the one hand, technicians believe that the number of postponements will increase every weekend and they believe that sporting equity will no longer be guaranteed. On the other hand, leaders are afraid of a vacuum with the closure of clubs for several weeks as in March. it would be a big blow for the associative milieu, already severely impacted. And sure that everyone will be attentive to the speech of the President of the Republic this evening at 8 pm.
