1. FC Cologne versus Eintracht Frankfurt 1: 1, 4th matchday – Bundesliga – football

Without the ailing Jonas Hector, but with the entry from Frankfurt, Marius Wolf, Cologne had a long hard time developing a concept for its game forward. This was also due to the Frankfurt pressing game, which effectively disrupted Cologne’s attack efforts very early on.

Apart from a shot by Frankfurt’s André Silva in the initial phase, which missed his target, the 300 spectators in the Cologne stadium saw almost no action worth mentioning. Even with the few standards, the FC developed no risk of goal.

Frankfurt’s tour at “untimely”

Eintracht tried to develop advantages and opportunities through possession of the ball – with success: In the 45th minute, Cologne’s defender Sebastiaan Bornauw attacked Daichi Kamada too clumsily and brought the Japanese down. Referee Sven Jablonski decided on penalties after studying video recording. André Silva converted sharply below right, the blow in the neck hit Cologne immediately before the break whistle.

After the break there were two more shocking moments for the hosts: First Kamada stepped over the ball with a good chance in a central position, a little later goalkeeper Timo Horn shot his own defender in a goal kick. But then the tide turned in the Cologne game.

A nice move leads to an equalization

In the 54th minute, Kingsley Ehizibue crossed from the right to the Ondrej Duda who had also run. No Frankfurter near him – Duda’s shot was unsustainable for Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp.

From this point on, both teams acted much more purposefully, especially the home side sought the way to the opposing goal much more intensively than was the case in the first part of the game. Again Duda had the chance to lead Cologne (64th), but failed to Trapp, Frankfurt’s Bas Dost, however, also had the lead with a hard shot on the foot (71th), but found his master in Cologne goalkeeper Horn.

Dedicated final quarter of an hour

Amin Younes missed Frankfurt’s biggest chance in his first competitive game for Eintracht about a quarter of an hour before the end: Rafael Czichos managed to steer his right-footed shot around the post. Younes enlivened the Frankfurt game, but Cologne kept the guests in check thanks to its combative style of play.

The final point was a firm right-footed shot by Anthony Modeste, who just missed the Frankfurt goal. The 1-1 draw was in the end a performance-based result. “It was definitely not a nice game to watch”said the former Frankfurt Marius Wolf, but emphasized: “We can build on that point, and we didn’t play badly either.” Goalscorer Duda said: “I’m happy that we came back. We can play football, we have quality”said scorer Duda. But it is time “to get three points.”

1. FC Köln have to play at VfB Stuttgart on the next match day on Friday (23.10.2020, 8.30 p.m.), Eintracht Frankfurt will play one day later (3.30 p.m.) at Bayern Munich.
