The Montreal Canadiens have signed defender Joel Edmundson on a four-year contract with an average annual value of $ 3.5 million, the team said on Wednesday.
According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the deal includes a no-trade clause for 10 teams.

Montreal acquired Edmundson’s rights on September 12th via trade and sent a 2020 fifth round selection to the Carolina Hurricanes for the Blue Liner. Edmundson was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs, having just signed a one-year $ 3.1 million deal.
The 27-year-old scored a career high of 20 points in 68 games with the Hurricanes between 2019 and 20 and ran an average of 18:27 per night. In the postseason, Edmundson scored a goal for the ‘Canes in four games, with his average ice time rising to 23:41.
Edmundson won a Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2018-19, scoring seven points through 22 postseason inclines averaging 16:32 minutes per night.
