Social media goes crazy as PSG and Marseille players kick and punch each other in brutal fight

On a crazy night in the French capital Paris, the players of the country’s two best teams, Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, clashed, forcing the referee to hand out 17 cards, five of which were red. (More football news)

Brazilian superstar Neymar, who blamed rival player Alvaro and also shared messages about him being a victim of racism, was one of those expelled. PSG substitutes Leandro Paredes and Layvin Kurzawa, and Marseille duo Jordan Amavi and Dario Benedetto have joined the marching former Barcelona player.

The match, dubbed Le Classique, an equivalent of Barcelona vs Real Madrid Clasico in Spain, was a contentious match from the start. Florian Thauvin’s 31-minute goal proved enough to deliver the UEFA Champions League finalists to their second Ligue 1 defeat out of two.

Then, all hell broke loose in injury time when Marseille’s Benedict pushed Paredes, with the PSG midfielder hitting him on the ground before headbutting Alvaro. It was followed by more kicks and punches, with Kurzawa and Amavi involved in the fight.

The referee also checked the VAR for an apparent punch from Neymar.
