Sixers is expected to retain star duo Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons

The Philadelphia 76ers have just wrapped up a tough 2019-20 season where they ran into trouble on the pitch and were blown away from Round 1 of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics.

In a season like this, many questions arise and many of them will be addressed to the stellar duo of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Now, the Sixers didn’t have Simmons in the playoffs, but questions about their form always arise due to Simmons’ lack of shooting.

Former NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway Sr. had an opinion on the Sixers stars when he joined Go4It Radio’s Paul Gant on their podcast to discuss the star duo. He believes they can work and they can win, but they need a point guard.

Hardaway Sr .:

Yes, it can work. I think they also need a point guard for when Ben Simmons comes out that they can have a point guard who can do three, who can lead a team that could make the right plays, just like Ben Simmons. It doesn’t have to be 6 feet 9/6 feet 10 tall, it could be 6 feet 2/6 feet 3, but coming off the bench and running a team, the way a point guard performs a or how Ben Simmons manages a team. I’ll keep those guys. The talent they have is fantastic.

Simmons and Embiid are two of the top 15 players the NBA has to offer. Now, they just have to find the necessary shooters around them to be successful. In the past they had JJ Redick and Jimmy Butler, but after they left, the move to bring in Al Horford and Josh Richardson didn’t have the same effect.

General manager Elton Brand has said in the past that the team has no plans to break Simmons and Embiid, but will need to find some shooters this offseason. Whether it’s through the project or maybe in free agency with the small amount of money they have, something has to happen. The fact of the matter is that the Sixers should build around the young stars rather than try to break them.
