School sport is slowly picking up in the Strasbourg academy

The National Day of School Sport, last week, marked the resumption of school sport in the Strasbourg Academy. Now it’s time for cross country preparation with a new formula.

“It’s picking up slowly. We are confident and we wait for things to improve. “ One month after the start of the school year, this is how Catherine Schubnel, UNSS regional director of the Strasbourg Academy, assesses the situation of school sport in the departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin. Last week’s National School Sports Day was a good indicator. “The 250 academy establishments were mobilized. This represents a large number of students concerned by this JNSS ”, she rejoices. The theme of this 2020 edition being “health and recovery to sport”, school nurses were associated with the event. New workshops around barrier gestures and distancing to adopt in this period of the Covid-19 pandemic have appeared. The activities were diverse according to the sports associations. At the Jean-Mentel college in Sélestat (Bas-Rhin), badminton, step, ultimate and even climbing were well represented. The academy rector was on hand to hand over the Esprit 2024 label to the establishment.

Now, the regional service of the UNSS Academy of Strasbourg is looking into the organization of its crosses in this uncertain health context. “We are thinking about setting up a time trial formula to allow everyone to participate in the current conditions”, explains Catherine Schubnel. “This format would make it possible to limit the time spent on a site. Departures would be in waves of ten students. “
