PSG-OM: Neymar suspended two firm games, the investigation continues

The Paris-SG was engaged on two fronts Wednesday evening, as radiant as the other. On the ground, the French champions won at the end of the match (1-0, goal by the returning Julian Draxler in the 93e minute) against FC Metz nine against eleven, an epic epilogue which allows the club to open its points counter – after three games, it was time – during the 2020-2021 championship. At the same time, at the headquarters of the Professional Football League (LFP), the disciplinary commission of the instance partially ruled on the lamentable events that punctuated Sunday’s match, lost (0-1) against the Olympic de Marseille: fight, strangulation, spitting, insults or suspicion of racist and homophobic remarks. The star of this second front was the defender Layvin Kurzawa: six matches of suspensions for his attempt to close-fight against the Marseillais Jordan Amavi (who, him, takes three matches), a price in line with the gauge of seven matches envisaged in the texts (article 13 of the disciplinary regulations) for “altercations” and “blows”.

Sports injury

Since Kurzawa’s replacement at the post, Juan Bernat, probably seriously injured his knee at the same time against Metz, the sporting damage appears substantial. Expelled Sunday after two yellow cards, Leandro Paredes takes two games of suspension plus a suspended sentence: heavier than expected in the texts (one plus one, often), but the behavior of the Argentine after coming into play at twenty minutes of the end, all in various provocations, can explain this. Neymar, he takes two games plus one suspended: a yellow plus a red – unlike Paredes, two yellow – justify the verdict, Neymar having been, it is true, constantly challenged by voice and gesture by his opponents on Sunday.

The Brazilian has reported racist insults (“monkey” according to him) against him from Marseille defender Alvaro González, a case that seems to hamper the underbelly of the Marseille club, obviously not really sure of the attitude of his own player during this classico: the case has been put under investigation.

Oddity of the investigation

Sébastien Deneux, the chairman of the disciplinary committee of the League, did not promise much: “The certainties are not enough to call the two players. We have a certain number of elements, but which must be the object of an investigation and even more be subjected to the contradictory of all the parts to allow to shed light on what was actually said. “ A procedure that could backfire against Neymar himself: he is suspected of having opened hostilities by qualifying the Spanish defender as “maricón” (queer).

Finally, the Parisian striker Angel Di María will be summoned on September 23 to answer for his spitting, clearly visible, on the same Alvaro; a Di María who had just come out of quarantine for testing positive for the coronavirus. Regardless of the context, the texts provide for six games of suspension for this gesture.

Let us recall all the same an oddity of the current investigation: in addition to the images of the broadcaster of the match, Téléfoot, the League asked for those filmed by BeIn Sports Mena, which broadcasts Ligue 1 in the Middle East. However, BeIn and Paris-SG have the same shareholder, Qatar Sports Investments, as well as the same president, Nasser al-Khelaïfi: a somewhat dubious mixture of genres when it comes to giving images on which sports justice is supposed lean to deliver verdicts. PSG were also given the images of beIN that they dissected at length on Tuesday.
