Novak Djokovic this year in Rome he did not have to face any opponent from the Top 10 and took advantage of the favorable draw. In five matches, the first player in the world lost the set only in the quarterfinals with the German outsider Dominik Köpfer, Salvator Carus, Filip Krajinovič, Casper Ruud and in today’s final also Diegem Schwartzmanem he managed 2-0 on sets.

Although the Serbian favorite entered the finals miserably and after two lost services they lost 0-3, but the turn was reversed and the set won 7-5. He also started the second act with a losing serve, but he managed an immediate rebound and lost only one exchange from 3-3.

The 33-year-old Djokovic played the finals in Rome for the tenth time and for the fifth time since 2015 he managed to triumph in it. After his August triumph at the Western & Southern Open in New York, he recorded a record 36th title from the Masters 1000 tournaments and an overall 81st title in his career.

This year, Djokovic played 32 matches and suffered the only defeat in the US Open round of 16 after disqualification for unintentionally shooting the line referee with a ball. Even before the coronavirus break, he celebrated triumphs at the ATP Cup, the Australian Open and Dubai.

“Even at my age, every title is still just as beautiful. Maybe I value them even more because I face great opponents who have nothing to lose and want to succeed,” said Djokovic.

Twenty-eight-year-old Argeninec Schwartzman played in the finals of the Masters 1000 for the first time in his career, but he did not end his life race with a triumph. In the Italian capital, he scored the premiere scalp of Big 3 on at least the 18th attempt, when he lost in the quarterfinals after a great performance by the faulty Rafael Nadal.

“I’m sad at the moment, the defeat hurts. I believed I could find a way to victory,” commented Schwartzman, who lost the fourth duel. “But one day I’ll be happy to remember this tournament, because I played really well here, won the Rafa scalp and played the first big finals. It’s a pity that there couldn’t be more spectators.”
