Coyotes appoints Bill Armstrong as new general manager

The Arizona Coyotes will appoint Bill Armstrong as the team’s next general manager, says Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman.

Armstrong spent 16 years in various roles with the St. Louis Blues, most recently as the club’s deputy general manager. He replaces John Chayka, who split from Arizona in July.

Andy Strickland, who covers the blues for Fox Sports Midwest, Reports Armstrong will sign a five-year deal with the Coyotes that will earn him more than $ 1 million per season.

The Blues hired Armstrong as an amateur scout in 2004 after his career ended in 1999, and in 2010 he was promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting. He added Deputy General Manager to his 2018 title.

The Coyotes and Chayka split shortly before the NHL game resumed that summer. Both sides threw themselves angry at each other in statements in which the farewell was announced. Commissioner Gary Bettman is still expected to rule on some of the contract law related to the split.

Steve Sullivan has been promoted to interim general manager in place of Chayka, but it is currently unclear whether he will stay with the organization. Sullivan was one of several candidates interviewed for the full-time job, including broadcasters Pierre McGuire and Kevin Weekes, and former Los Angeles Kings Assistant General Manager Mike Futa.
