Choupo-Moting: Tuchel confirms that the Cameroon star has left PSG

The former Stoke City player will not stay in Paris for the new season following the expiration of his contract in late August

Eric Choupo-Moting will not return to Paris Saint-Germain for the 2020-21 season after both sides failed to reach a deal for a new deal, Objective can confirm.

Choupo-Moting’s two-year deal with the French champions had expired at the end of June, but was granted a short-term extension until the conclusion of PSG’s Champions League campaign.

The Ligue 1 champions were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich in Lisbon on 23 August, with Choupo-Moting present in the final 10 minutes of the match.

After Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Marseille at the Parc de Princes, Thomas Tuchel admitted that the French giants lost the Cameroon captain along with four other players this summer.

When asked about the Parisians’ transfer plans, the German tactician replied; “Will there be new players? I really hope so.

“It’s no secret, we have lost five players including Choupo-Moting. It will be complicated, we will play a lot of games. I don’t know if other teams that have played in the Champions League should play so many games.”

Since moving to Paris from Stoke City in 2018, Choupo-Moting has been limited to a substitute role on Tuchel’s squad.

Of the 31 Ligue 1 games played, the Indomitable Lions forward has made 13 appearances, 18 substitute appearances and scored six goals in total.

Last month, the 31-year-old made a super-subtitled statement with the winning goal that sent PSG into the Champions League semi-finals after a 2-1 win against Atalanta.

Ahead of Sunday’s league match, Tuchel revealed that the former Schalke 04 star was offered a new deal suggesting he would play a similar role last season.

“It is one of the possibilities [a new contract for Choupo-Moting]. It all depends on whether you want to stay and accept the club’s proposal, “Tuchel said.

“My opinion of him has not changed, he accepts the same role as the one he occupied, he can be a good player for us. His role would be the same and if he accepts, it could very well be that he stays [at the club]. If he has other possibilities, he must reflect “.

Choupo-Moting spent most of his career in Germany and previously played for Hamburger SV, Mainz 05 and Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga before moving to Stoke City in 2017.

He scored five goals in 30 Premier League games in the 2017-18 season and left the Potters after relegation to the league.
