Newcastle have placed a bid totaling £ 20m on Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

Aston Villa had turned down a £ 15m (plus add-ons) bid from the cherries for the player on Friday.

The Newcastle offer was not accepted or rejected.

The England international is keen to move to either club and wants to play Premier League football next season.

Wilson has scored 67 goals in 180 games at Bournemouth since moving from Coventry in 2014, including eight last season when the South Coast club was relegated from the Premier League on their final day.

The 28-year-old has also caught the interest of Fulham, West Ham and Tottenham this summer.

It’s believed Bournemouth would like Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie in a separate deal, but wages can be an issue.

Newcastle are stepping up their efforts in the transfer market after Norwich accepted a £ 13.5m bid for Jamal Lewis on Saturday morning.

According to Sky in Italy, they also negotiated left-back Rogerio with Sassuolo. It is said that a fee of £ 12.5 million has been discussed for the 22-year-old.

Newcastle have also been actively trying to bring free agent striker Ryan Fraser to the club this week.

The Scottish international, who terminated his contract with Bournemouth, was in Tyneside on Friday for talks with Newcastle boss Steve Bruce.

Fraser hasn’t made up his mind about his future yet and there’s no deal with Newcastle. However, the 26-year-old is believed to be interested in moving to St. James’ Park.
