Badminton Regionalliga: VfB Grün-Weiß in second place on the table

After a 5: 3 away win at Gladbecker FC last Tuesday, the green and white first substitute could play their way up in the table.

Points for the Mülheimers got:
Vasily Kuznetsov / Malik Bourakkadi in the first men’s doubles against Steffen Hohenberg / Nils Wackertapp (18:21, 17:21)
The Green-White fan base who traveled with them saw an open game in which the two Mülheimers were able to add something towards the end of the sentence.

Lea-Lyn Stremlau / Sarah Molodet in women’s doubles against Sarah Bergedick / Carina Lange (20:22, 21:17, 11:21).
From Mülheim’s point of view, things didn’t look so good until the end of the second set. Then the green and white team really turned up in the decision set.

Malik Bourakkadi in the first men’s singles against Nils Wackertapp (5:21, 19:21).
Wackertapp had overslept the first sentence, then did everything in the second sentence to turn the game around. This also seemed possible. But when he failed to hit the ball in a promising position at 19:19, Bourakkadi used this “big point” and brought the game home.

Laura Wich in the women’s singles against Sarah Bergedick (15:21, 18:21).
Wich had more problems with the physically superior Bergedick than the result suggests. The Gladbeck woman could not be cracked with high long balls. Wich varied her tactics and was ultimately able to use her runner superiority.

Vasily Kuznetsov / Lea-Lyn Stremlau in mixed against Malte Demond / Carina Lange (18:21, 17:21).
A well worth seeing, high-class and for a long time completely open game, in which even the green and white icon Vasily Kuznetsov had to give up his filigree technique from time to time to simply blare. And Lea-Lyn Stremlau was always there to convert balls that were missed too short into points.

From the VfB reserve were again Philipp Volovnik and Hong Kai Len moved up. In the second men’s doubles, however, the two had no chance against Maik-Oliver Abels and Malte Demond from Gladbeck and lost with 21:10, 21:10.

The veteran who is still well known in the Mülheim badminton scene and is currently serving Gladbeck Steffen Hohenberg had then also in the 3rd men’s singles Hong Kai Len no problems and won with 21: 8, 21:10.

The 2nd men’s single between Maik-Oliver Abels and Philipp Volovnik but should become a crime thriller. At first it looked as if Abels wanted to show his opponent how big the playing fields are in Gladbeck: He sent Volovnik from one corner to the other until he could make the point – and clearly won the first set with 21:14.
Volovnik remembered this tactic and turned the tables in the second set and won it 17:21. In endlessly long rallies, the players in the decision set went to their limits in order to force the opponent to make mistakes. Abels was behind for a while, finally had the better nerve and rocked the game home (21:19). Both players were then loudly celebrated by the audience.

With this 5: 3 final result, Green-White is currently in second place in the table. This is also due to the different match days in the regional league. That could change again next weekend. The opponent of the next home meeting on October 3rd in the hall of the Otto-Pankok School is BC Phönix Hövelhof.
