Wolff is looking for revenge at Spa: ‘We have something to make up for here’

The race in Spain has shown what Mercedes is capable of if it wants to make up for something, says Toto Wolff. Lewis Hamilton hit back mercilessly after losing at Silverstone a week earlier. That is very promising for the Grand Prix of Belgium this weekend: “We have not won there since 2017.”

“We saw the attitude of the team in Barcelona. After the struggle in Silverstone, we analyzed our problems and made the right conclusions. The strong performances on Sunday were the result of the unbridled efforts of many people ”, Wolff fulminates.

The Spa Francorchamps circuit has really been Ferrari territory in recent years, but that is normally a thing of the past given the Scuderia’s inferior power. The Austrian is therefore clear about the intentions of Mercedes this weekend. “After a weekend off, we start the next triple header of the year, we go to Spa where we have not won since 2017. So it feels a bit like we still have something to make up for here. ”

From Turn 1, the La Source hairpin, the drivers have their foot on the gas for 23 seconds. About 1800 meters further on, the brakes only start again for Les Combes. “It’s an iconic track and one of the fans’ favorites. Finding the right set-up can be difficult because it is such a versatile track with varying characteristics. You don’t want to drag on the long straights, but you also want to have grip to get through the corners quickly. ”

The predictions for the weekend are ‘des Spas’. Storm Francis also has an impact on the Ardennes and for Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is rain on the weather maps. Although in Spa it is still questionable whether the showers will also fall. “The rain wouldn’t make it any easier. It is also the first weekend at Spa since the tragic death of Anthoine Hubert last year. That was a dark day for the entire motorsport community. Our thoughts are with his family and friends this weekend. ”
