Washington football team mInfluencer owners are pressuring majority owner Daniel Snyder to sell the team, according to Andrew Beaton and Cara Lombardo of the the Wall Street newspaper.

According to Beaton and Lombardo, the news comes “in the midst of an increasing struggle” within the team. Additionally, Beaton and Lombardo reported that Snyder “has no intention” of selling and has made a “recent legal deposit” which implies that a minority partner “attempted to disclose defamatory information against him.”

The report comes amid an offseason in which more than a dozen women who worked for the team told Will Hobson and Liz Clarke of the Washington post that they have experienced sexual harassment and verbal abuse from team employees.

Washington also changed its nickname, a racial insult to Indigenous peoples, after significant public pressure from the team’s sponsors, including the stadium of the same name, FedEx.

Clarke, Mark Maske and Les Carpenter of Washington post reported in July that minority owners were looking to sell their stakes in the team.

The Washington football team has three minority owners: CEO of Black Diamond Capital Robert Rothman, President of NVR Inc. Dwight Schar and Frederick W. Smith, President, President and CEO of FedEx.

They combine to own 40% of the team, with the remaining 60% being controlled by Snyder, his mother and sister.

Washington was most recently valued at $ 3.4 billion in September 2019, per Forbes. Snyder owned the team since 1999, when he bought the franchise for $ 800 million.

The team have struggled on the pitch since the end of their 1982-91 run, which saw Washington win three Super Bowls.

Washington hasn’t won more than 10 games in a single season since then and has only made the playoffs six times in 28 seasons. He’s just finished a 3-13 season and a final spot in the NFC East.
