Usain Bolt celebrated his 34th birthday in Jamaica with a party without distance and masks. Now Bolt has tested positive for Corona. His birthday guests have to be in quarantine, including a Bundesliga professional.

Dhe birthday party of Olympic champion Usain Bolt is becoming a political issue in Jamaica – and also affects the Bundesliga. After the former sprint star tested positive for the corona virus, a player from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen also had to go into quarantine.

Leon Bailey, like England international Raheem Sterling, visited Bolt last Friday on the Caribbean island to congratulate him on his 34th birthday. The 23-year-old attacking player is Jamaican and also plays for the national team of the Caribbean state.

“Up until the take-off of the plane privately chartered by the player, which ensures Bailey’s isolation at all times,” Bailey was “in quarantine at home,” Bayer announced on Tuesday. “After his arrival in Leverkusen, Bailey will remain in quarantine at home and will be tested regularly by an independent laboratory.” He should only have contact with the team again if there is no risk of infection or contagion.

Former sprint superstar Bolt was informed of the test result by authorities on Monday, said Jamaican Health Minister Christopher Tufton. The eight-time Olympic champion had previously stated in a video on social media that he had himself tested on Saturday and had gone into quarantine as a precaution. He has no symptoms.

Videos of Bolt’s birthday are circulating on the Internet, they show an outdoor celebration, but the guests do not wear face masks and do not keep their distance. As Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness said, the police are investigating.

Bolt, the world record holder for 100 and 200 meters, had said: “I spoke to all of my friends and told them that if they came into contact with me, they should – just to be sure – go into quarantine themselves.”

So far, 1612 infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen and 16 deaths as a result of Covid-19 disease have been registered in the Caribbean island state. After visitors were allowed to enter the country again in June, there has recently been a significant increase in new infections.
