Update on Luke Shaw’s injury ahead of Manchester United’s new season

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is stepping up injury recovery ahead of the new Premier League season.

Shaw suffered an ankle injury during United’s draw with his former club Southampton on 13 July, which sidelined him for the remainder of the league season.

The England international was not fit enough to travel to Cologne for the Europa League finals, with coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to bring the defender back in time for the new season.

“Luke will be out until next season,” Solskjaer said at the end of July. “This is a hard blow for him and a blow for us because it was fantastic.”

United will start their 2020/21 campaign at home against Crystal Palace on 19 September with the players currently on vacation ahead of the new season.

Shaw is among the many United players to have chosen the Greek island of Mykonos as their holiday destination this summer and has continued to work on his recovery at a popular fitness venue used by the likes of Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng and Arsenal star Hector Bellerin. Daniel James also used the facility.

Shaw’s return will be welcomed by United fans given his impressive performances over the past year and with Brandon Williams battling for form during the run-in.
