Tour de France: Alaphilippe wins the stage and the yellow jersey

The French Julian Alaphilippe won the second stage of the Tour de France disputed around and on the heights of Nice this Sunday. In yellow for 14 days in 2019, the leader of the Deceuninck-Quick Step grabbed the gold tunic at the same time to ideally launch the Big Loop which was only waiting for this good news. This is the Frenchman’s first victory in 2020 and his fifth stage victory on the Grande Boucle.

The French dedicated it to his father Jo, who disappeared last June, and burst into tears the line crossed.

In the last climb of the day, the Col des Quatre Chemins, Julian Alaphilippe decided to set fire to a hitherto very calm race by leaving with the Swiss Marc Hirschi. The duo, soon joined by Englishman Adam Yates, were up to 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the peloton to compete for victory on the Promenade des Anglais.
