Toto Wolff on the black day for motorsport: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends”

The Mercedes team cannot stand it well if they are not the best at something. The Grand Prix van Belgi has not been the domain of the Silver Arrows in recent years. Since the victory of Lewis Hamilton in 2017, Ferrari has won the biggest trophy for the last two seasons. Sebastian Vettel won for Ferrari in 2018 and last year Charles Leclerc booked his first victory in Formula 1. Team boss Toto Wolff is therefore looking for revenge.

“It feels like we still have something to put right in Belgium,” says Wolff in his preview of the race on the Mercedes website. “Spa is an iconic circuit and one of the fan favorites. It can be difficult to find the right set-up because the track has different characteristics.”

Wolff explains: “You want as little drag as possible on the straights, but on the other hand you need a certain level of downforce to go through the corners quickly. The weather forecasts are that it could rain in the Ardennes, so that doesn’t make it any easier this year. “

“It is also the first time that we have been to Belgium since the death of Anthoine Hubert. That was a black day for motorsport and our thoughts are with his family and friends. We will honor him this weekend.”
