Tommie Smith: “I stood there for humanity”

Es is the most famous protest in sports history. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, 200-meter winner Tommie Smith (then 24) raised his arm at the award ceremony and made a fist to demonstrate for the equality of all people. The 76-year-old is still involved today.

Question: Tell us how your fight against racism and discrimination began: On October 16, 1968, you and John Carlos raised their fists on the podium. How long was that planned?
