Three clubs have already been eliminated from the Champions League and Europa League after corona cases

Played football for a whole season to be allowed to play European and then be eliminated without playing for a minute. It has already happened to three clubs. After the Kosovar Drita, Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) and FC Pristina (Kosovo) also fell victim to UEFA’s strict corona policy.

Slovan Bratislava was to play in the first qualifying round of the Champions League against KI Klaksvik (Faroe Islands). The game was postponed twice after positive tests with players of the Slovakian club. UEFA awarded a regulatory 3-0 win to Klaksvik on Monday, which can now play against Young Boys in the second heat on Wednesday.

Bratislava is appealing against the decision and if necessary goes to the CAS, board member Ivan Kmotrik said. “We feel seriously disadvantaged. The local authorities in the Faroe Islands have done everything they can to cancel the game in an attempt to unfairly advance to the next round. This has nothing to do with fair play.”

FC Pristina forget about the Europa League

Kosovar FC Pristina hoped to enforce participation in the Europa League through the qualifications. After eight positive corona cases, it even flew eight amateur players to be allowed to compete against Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar. In vain, because UEFA decided to legally allocate the victory to Lincoln Red Imps in this case as well.
