There will only be two declines in the ACB next season

The agreement signed yesterday between the ACB and the FEB brings Gipuzkoa Basket closer to power compete next season in the Endesa League, as has been the intention of those responsible for the Gipuzkoan club since it was labeled as a promoted team. In a statement signed both by the president of the employer, Antonio Martín, and by the federal president, Jorge Garbajosa, it is explained that the new agreement establishes that, “the maximum number of teams that will make up the ACB in the 2021/22 season it will be 18 ”and that, in general, the number of promotions from LEB Oro will always be two per season. But the statement explains that for this season “exceptionally and only on the assumption that the ACB has 19 teams, in the 2020/21 season there would be a single promotion from LEB Oro to ACB” and there will only be two relegations from the Endesa League so that the next campaign, the competition is made up of 18 teams.

It is a decision that leaves Gipuzkoa Basket almost permanently on the starting grid of the ACB, since the management board of the FEB has signed that there will only be a decrease. It is perhaps not the most fair and since last night the complaints of the followers of the LEB Oro teams were patent.

One million euros

The statement also explains that “to compensate the LEB Oro clubs for the possible damage derived from this force majeure situation generated by the current health situation, both parties will approve a ‘Comprehensive Support Plan for LEB Oro’ where the ACB and the FEB will pay 500,000 euros each ”to the clubs to alleviate the effects of Covid-19, as well as to guarantee the retransmission of all the competition matches on the platform determined by the Federation.
