The Knicks have officially picked 27th place in the 2020 NBA Draft

When New York traded Marcus Morris to the Clippers for a pick in the first round of this year’s draft, the Knicks were not universally targeted. It was a little strange. Morris was easily the best player on the team. It had unreal shot numbers that seemed destined to fall to the ground at some point, but they just wouldn’t be! At one point he lost a stretch of matches with a neck injury. When he returned he was still very hot. There has also been a debate over whether or not the Knicks should hang on to Morris, forgo a future resource and do whatever it takes to keep his services. As opposed to releasing the caged bird, signing it next off-season and pretending nothing has happened.

The Knicks, unsurprisingly, were a junk heap of ill-conceived formations and schemes. It set them up for failure and eventually David Fizdale sat quietly in the ejector seat as the huge red button labeled “your time in New York” was pressed. For this, the Knicks were universally panned and all was well with the universe. Lost in the mix, Morris was shooting .439% deep with the Knicks and only .310 for the Clippers where he is not allowed to bleed the goods.

So anyway, in the bubble game, it was possible for the Clippers to really stink and the pick could have gone up to 24. Unfortunately the Clippers finished their bubble by defeating the Thunder and after some of us actually cheered for the Bubble Celtics to overcome the Bubble Clippers, the Bub Celts lost to the previously winless Washington Wizards. I didn’t look but I assume Gary Payton II had a triple double with 10 steals, 10 blocks and 10 … ermmm … rebounds.

But everything is fine in Knicksville. This project is all flat and big sky and New York will have three quality selections in the lowlands. This Wednesday the Draft lottery will take place and we will finally know if the Knicks will be able to move up from sixth place. Also, if they wish, they can sign Marcus Morris again when free will begins. You did well your way, Knicks.

TO UPDATE

There is some small discrepancy as to whether the second round choice should be 38 or 39.

If my king, and your king again, Marc Berman says I’m 38, that’s thirty-two damned eight. Shut up, Bobby Marks. However! As the Wizards practically lost, not only did they push the Hornets down a notch (to 39), they also beat the Clippers with their only win. Wizards are our enemies, so we have to hunt Davis Bertans. We begin to forge scimitars.
