The Brisbane Broncos players, senior players, all have to look at themselves, says Trevor Gillmeister

Former Queensland hardman Trevor Gillmeister says senior players at the Brisbane Broncos must take a “hard look at themselves” as manager Anthony Seibold’s future remains in doubt.

Seibold’s position at Red Hill reached a new level of control over the weekend when reports emerged that the club had offered the contested coach a $ 1 million payout to leave the club with immediate effect.

A horrific social media attack on Seibold, who struggled through a major family drama off the field, has also sped up negotiations on his position at the club.

Gillmeister said although Seibold, who was struck by an off-field drama, feels sorry, both parties would make the right decision to part ways.

“I have a feel for Seibold and what he’s been through from the field. I think it’s good to make a decision and both parties can move on,” Gillmeister told 2 GB Broad world of sports radio

“The speculation is not good for anyone.”

When asked who should compete for the disappointing season of only one win for the Broncos since the NRL resumed competition in late May, Gillmeister said he could “no longer agree” with the club’s senior players should shoulder part of the guilt.

“It doesn’t just happen overnight, it’s been four or five years,” he said.

“I personally have to look at the recruitment.

“Poor old Seibold came in and didn’t shape the team. The recruiting people have to be looked at.”

‘Wake up call’ Pangai needed

Gillmeister also said the players should “look at themselves closely” as they defend the Broncos manager for their problems on the field.

“The players also need to take a close look at themselves,” added Gillmeister.

“The majority of them have to take a look in the mirror, they are the ones who go out there.

“The head coach won’t drop the ball and miss a tackle, they all have plans for the week.

“The players have to be accountable too.”
