The team formed by Ricardo Martínez García and Gonzalo Alfaro Vázquez were proclaimed absolute champions of the XXVI LA NUEVA ESPAÑA Golf Tournament – Liberbank Trophy yesterday at the end of their round on Thursday with 45 Stableford points. Martínez García and Alfaro Vázquez play regularly in the Oviedo field of Las Caldas and have little experience in tournaments since they only participated in two. Their knowledge of the Gijón field is scarce, since they only played a couple of times in La Llorea and this is their first participation in the LA NUEVA ESPAÑA tournament. “We started very well and we were gaining confidence”, they assured yesterday after the awards ceremony.
Martínez García and Alfaro Vázquez highlighted their great understanding. “When one fails, the other fixes it and thus, little by little, things turned out,” they pointed out. “Every time we looked more confident, and, as the field is great, everything was easier,” they indicate. “Winning this tournament is an extra motivation,” they affirmed.
The two winners owe a lot to their teacher, “Manolín” from Las Caldas, who is the one who teaches them and encourages them to participate in tournaments. “It is an honor to be on the roster of the winners of the LA NUEVA ESPAÑA tournament, we are right now in a cloud” they related excited with their hand prizes.
