Spaniard Maverick Viales jumps from his bike at 220 km / h after running out of brakes

The Portuguese pilot Miguel Oliveira (KTM) has scored a stunning victory in the MotoGP Styria Grand Prix, finishing third in the last corner and taking advantage of the mistakes of Jack Miller (Ducati) i Pol Espargaró (KTM), who were fighting for victory, to beat both of them.

The 900 race in the history of the reigning category, and second in a row in the Austrian Red Bull Ring, has once again been full of excitement and has left the Spaniards with honey on their lips. Joan Mir (Suzuki) and Espargaró, who have dreamed of victory.

Second accident in less than a week

As happened last week, a red flag split the race in two. The origin this time was the Yamaha of Maverick Viñales, who managed to save a very dangerous incident. When rolling in 220 kilometers per hour, his bike’s brakes failed and he had to be thrown to the ground while running, fortunately without consequences for his health. His Yamaha crashed into the guards and caught fire instantly. It has been the culmination of a ‘nightmare’ day for the Spanish rider’s brand.

So far, the big dominator has been Joan Mir, who started from third position and immediately captured the lead. The Mallorcan started a superb performance and managed to escape alone until he achieved an income of more than two seconds over his rivals, when he suddenly began to wave the red flag.

After the forced passage through the ‘boxes’, the tires of his Suzuki have not held in the second part of the race, consisting of 12 laps, and has had to settle for fourth place in the final, watching from afar the fight for victory between Espargaró, Miller and the unexpected Oliveira.

Espargaró took the lead with six laps to go and tried to try the breakaway, but his pursuers held on until the fateful last lap. The Spaniard and the Australian have been given advances, but in the final curve the two have gone a long way, victims of their own desires, and have left the door open for the attentive Oliveira, who has not wasted such a juicy ‘gift’.

As for the general classification, Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) remains in the lead despite its thirteenth position. After five races in the queen category, the Frenchman has 70 points and is three points ahead of his pursuer Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), fifth this Sunday, while Viñales is the best Spaniard, fifth at 22 in the lead.
