No return of spectators until at least the end of October

The hopes of football and other sports for a significant return of spectators to the arenas have been dashed. As a result of the corona pandemic, professional sport in Germany will in principle have to do without visitors until at least the end of October.

1. FC Union was founded 100 years ago. As in the first game ever, the Berliners are now playing against 1. FC Nürnberg. The test should take place in front of 5000 spectators despite Corona. With strict conditions.

FBundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin is planning the dress rehearsal at the start of the season for the first time in the Corona crisis with spectators in the home stadium “An der Alten Försterei”. As the Eiserne announced on Friday, the test match against second division 1. FC Nürnberg will be held on September 5th (5:30 pm) with the maximum 5000 participants allowed in the capital.

From September 1st, according to the current infection protection ordinance, open-air events with this number of people are again permitted in Berlin.

Union had recently surprised with plans to play in front of a sold-out stadium again at the start of the new season. However, this was not feasible and politicians clearly rejected it. The attempt to quickly ensure full utilization of the stadium with 22,012 spectators using preventive corona tests of all visitors has also failed so far. In general, the Bundesliga is preparing for a start to the season without spectators.

“A mouth and nose cover must be worn”

With the help of a lottery, tickets are now to be awarded – exclusively to Union association members. One free ticket can be purchased for each club member. The tickets are personalized and may not be passed on, Union announced and added: “A mouth and nose cover must be worn.” The mask can only be removed at the field, when leaving the field and otherwise on the stadium grounds be worn.

The Berliners are celebrating their 100th stadium anniversary this year. Against Nuremberg there was also the official opening game on August 7, 1920 in the Köpenick district.
