Beach volleyball player Alexander Walkenhorst sees himself as a straight forward fighter for the just cause. This time he takes on the association’s managing director Klemperer – and overshots the target.
Wif he loves beach volleyball from the way it was created, he must be at least half a revolutionary. The beachers once turned their backs on the association because conventional indoor sports became too boring for them and the structures were too encrusted. Alexander Walkenhorst must be viewed in this tradition. The 32-year-old has been playing beach volleyball for half his life – the sport he loves – and at which he repeatedly messes with the establishment in an attempt to do better.
In the past few weeks and months, the native of Essen has played a four-fold role: as organizer of the new beach league, operator of the scene podcast “Without a net and sandy soil”, as commentator on the Twitch streaming portal, and a new one for beach volleyball Target group found – and of course as a player. A torn muscle fiber in his stomach recently stopped his athletic journey. At least he was able to resume training. His big mouth, however, slowed him down in the other activities.
