Sevilla defeated Manchester United in the semifinals of the European League 2: 1 and advanced to the semifinals of the European League. The Andalusian club is the most successful club in history in this competition, which can only be confirmed in the final with the best of the pair Inter Milan – Shakhtar Donetsk.
In the recent history of the European League, which lasts about ten years, Sevilla, together with Atletic Madrid, is clearly the most successful team. She won the competition three times, as well as the Madrid team, three times in 2014, 2015 and 2016 under the manager Unai Emery, Chelsea dominated the tournament twice, and after one triumph, for example, Manchester United or FC Porto. If successful in the finals, however, Sevilla will also beat Atletico.
The European League has been played since the 2009/10 season, but Sevilla, unlike Atletico and Chelsea, was also successful in the predecessor of the competition – the UEFA Cup. She won it in 2006 and 2007. While she did not dominate La Liga or the Doma Cup of the Copa del Rey Sevilla for a very long time, in the Champions League she is not very good either, in the European League UEFA Cup. Juventus, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have three cups.
But the Andalusian club also boasts another respectable record in the European League. He managed to eliminate 25 of the last 26 opponents in this competition. While, for example, in the Champions League, Sevilla lost in the elimination part of Bayern, in the European League it always made it to the championship or did not participate in it at all. Except for one case.
And all Czech football fans certainly remember that. Last year, after a dramatic conclusion in Eden, which lasted until extra time, Sevilla lost to the domestic Slavia Prague and dropped out of the Europa League. Stitchers are the only team who have managed to eliminate Seville in their last twenty-six mutual (two) matches. On the other hand, there is also Sigma Olomouc, which was eliminated with Seville in the fourth preliminary round of the European League in the 2018/19 season.
