The New England Patriots are a real anomaly.
Making the playoffs in consecutive years is pretty tough. Four of last season’s 12 playoff teams have qualified in three or more consecutive years, including the Kansas City Chiefs (five), Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints (three each).
That makes the Patriots’ streak of 11 straight appearances all the more unlikely. And projecting the image of this year’s 14-team playoffs even more difficult.
For advice, ESPN reached out to league officials and coaches to spot last year’s playoff teams. We took that input and ranked the playoff odds from 1 to 12, wearing a white jersey to get the tomatoes tossed in our way.
