Race management snatches the second victory from Jorge Martín

The Spanish Jorge Martín (Kalex) lost his second consecutive victory by exceeding the limits of the circuit in the last lap of the Moto2 Grand Prix of Styria and sanctioned by Race Direction, the victory went to the Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Kalex), with him second and Australian Remy Gardner (Kalex) third.

Jorge Martín is second in the World Cup classification eight points behind Italian Luca Marini (Kalex), who could only be seventh.

Soon one of the main attractions of the Moto2 race, led from the beginning by Jorge Martín, lost one of the main attractions when another Spaniard, Arón Canet (Speed Up), who had been the fastest of the tests and as a debutant in the category, went to the ground. .

Canet lost grip on the front wheel of his motorcycle in turn four and could not avoid the fall, in which he also showed signs of hurting his knee and had to be evacuated by ambulance to the circuit clinic.

One lap later, in the fourth, another mishap, this time in turn three, in which the British Sam Lowes (Estrella Galicia 0’0 Kalex) entered very strained and took the Thai Somkiat Chantra (Kalex) ahead. like the Spanish Jorge Navarro (Speed Up), in an action that was investigated by Race Direction, who decided to show the British disqualification flag for his behavior on the track, although they could not show it one lap later Sam Lowes, who he had been able to get back on track, had crashed again at turn four.

Ahead, both Jorge Martín and his teammate, the Japanese Tetsuta Nagashima (Kalex), had achieved a certain advantage over the rest of the group, from which the Australian Remy Gardner (Kalex) and the Italian jumped on the fifth lap to try to catch them Marco Bezzecchi (Kalex) held the absolute record for the track a lap later.

Although Remy Gardner came to connect with the leading duo, the rhythm imposed by Martín and Nagashima made the Australian take a break and was somewhat off the hook, which served for Bezzecchi to approach him, with the rest of the group, headed by the Swiss Thomas Luthi (Kalex), a little further back.

With a constant rhythm Jorge Martín gradually distanced himself from Nagashima, who found Gardner glued to him while Bezzecchi approached them little by little and a little further behind another quartet with Luthi, the Italian Luca Marini (Kalex) and the Spanish Héctor Garzó (Kalex) and Xavier Vierge (Kalex).

On the twelfth lap, Remy Gardner decided to attack Tetsuta Nagashima in the braking of turn one and on the inside to be the one who threw to try to neutralize the leader of the race, Jorge Martín, who by then already had a second advantage.

With ten laps remaining, Jorge Martín’s advantage was more than two seconds over his immediate pursuers, Remy Gardner and Marco Bezzecchi, who in turn had one second over another duo formed by Tetsuta Nagashima and Thomas Luthi.

The superiority of Jorge Martín, unquestionable at first, was counteracted by the efficiency of Marco Bezzecchi, who surpassed Remy Gardner to try to hunt him down, and although initially the Spaniard knew how to maintain the rhythm and the pressure, the Italian was approaching little by little .

Meanwhile, a little further back, Xavier Vierge – nineteenth in training sessions – surpassed the world leader, Italian Luca Marini (Kalex) with eight laps remaining to place sixth, with Héctor Garzó eighth.

Bezzecchi recovered all the land from Martín and both played the victory in the last lap but the Spaniard knew how to close all the gaps to achieve the second consecutive victory, with Gardner as the third in contention, although when he reached the closed park Direction of Race him notified the sanction for exceeding the limits of the circuit and with it went from the first to the second position.

Vierge finished in sixth position, with Garzó ninth, Marcos Ramírez (Kalex) sixteenth and Edgar Pons (Kalex), behind him, while Augusto Fernández (Estrella Galicia 0’0 Kalex) could not finish the race, as well as Arón Canet and Jorge Navarro.
