PSG Navas goalkeeper in doubt for Champions League semi-final with hamstring injury

The Ligue 1 champions also released updates on the fitness of Thiago Silva, Marco Verratti and Layvin Kurzawa

Paris Saint-Germain may be without goalkeeper Keylor Navas for the Champions League semi-final after scans confirmed they suffered a hamstring tear.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper was injured during PSG’s dramatic 2-1 quarter-final win against Atalanta on Wednesday.

Sergio Rico replaced him in the final 10 minutes of the match, which PSG won thanks to late goals from Marquinhos and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Now, Navas faces a race to be fit in time for his team’s next match on Tuesday 18 August, against RB Leipzig or Atletico Madrid.

A PSG statement on Thursday said: “Keylor Navas left the pitch during the match on Wednesday night after feeling pain in his right hamstring after taking out the ball.

“Exams and MRIs confirmed a hamstring tear. His condition will be examined again on Saturday, but his involvement in Tuesday’s match is uncertain. “

However, Thomas Tuchel had better news about his captain and key defender Thiago Silva, who also had a hamstring problem during the Atalanta game.

Confirmed a small tear, but he should be ready to play the next game: “Thiago Silva ended the game with a right hamstring problem and medical tests and MRI confirmed a low-grade tear and I am optimistic about the fact who can take part in the game on Tuesday. “

PSG will also be encouraged by the further comeback of Kylian Mbappe, who played the last 30 minutes against Atalanta and had a strong impact on the match.

Marco Verratti was absent on Wednesday with a calf problem, but he is continuing his fitness work and will have a medical examination on Saturday, while Layvin Kurzawa is back in full shape.

On Thursday, PSG held a training session without the players who played the full 90 minutes against Atalanta.

Both Verratti and Kurzawa were missing, but Mbappe was on the pitch with his teammates.

Mbappe was expected to miss PSG’s return to Europe entirely due to an ankle injury, but his characteristic pace of running down the left channel provided the impetus for his team’s winning goal.
