“People look at me differently”: Naomi Osaka on becoming the highest paid female athlete

Two-time Grand Slam champion Noami Osaka broke into the quarter-finals at the 2020 Western and Southern Open. Recently, Forbes released a report on the highest paid female athletes of 2020 and Naomi Osaka tops the list to become the highest paid woman athlete in the last year.

The Japanese surpassed her arch rival Serena Williams, second on Forbes’ list of highest paid athletes. Osaka earned a whopping $ 37.4 million last year with $ 34 million in sponsorships and $ 3.4 million in prize money.

It was the first time since 2016 that two athletes found a place among the top 100 athletes, in 2016 Maria Sharapova appeared alongside Serena Willaims.

WTA stars dominate the Forbes list

Nine WTA players were placed in the Top-10 of Forbes’ highest paid female athlete. US Open champion Bianca Andreescu is in 6th place while reigning Wimbledon champion Simona Halep is in 4th place.

Current world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in third place grossed $ 13.1 million last year. 2017 Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza, world number 5 Elina Svitolina is also on the elusive list.
