Paul Pogba expects Manchester United to open contract negotiations once their Europa League campaign wraps up.

The midfielder still has one year left for his current deal at Old Trafford, with the possibility of an additional 12 months.

The Frenchman was tied to Real Madrid and the former Juventus club last summer, but now it appears the 27-year-old is willing to sign a new contract with United.

Pogba missed most of the extended 2019-20 season due to injury, but his impressive return to starting XI this season could still end in Europa League glory, with a new deal to follow.

“Pogba is happy at United and expects them to open contract negotiations once their Europa League campaign is over,” he reports. Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth.

Manchester United are ready to negotiate a new deal with Paul Pogba in the coming weeks

“His current contract ends next summer, but United always puts in this year’s option so they don’t get caught with free transfers.

“It must be said that United are in a better position to negotiate with Pogba and the return of Dean Henderson, as it is from Sheffield United, following the departure of Alexis Sanchez and all the money his salary has now freed up.

“There seems to be a willingness on all sides to get around the table as far as Pogba is concerned.”

Another question for United to resolve is that of Jesse Lingard’s future at the club.

“As for Jesse Lingard, like Pogba he still has a one year contract, another 12 month option,” added Dharmesh.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær says Jesse Lingard worked hard on his finish and proved it with his goal against LASK in the Europa League

“Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Lingard to stay, Lingard loves United but cannot be assured of first-team football.

“He is not in the first XI at the moment and very rarely does he bench, it must be said. He is unlikely to get those reassurance about playing time in the future.

“So the decisions must be made for Lingard, and indeed Pogba, but they will be made once United have a better idea of potential arrivals.”
