Rugby legends Greg Alexander and Braith Anasta have put Tevita Pangai Jr. on trial for seemingly trying not to get fired from Brisbane by launching a media campaign.
On Friday night, Fox League aired an open interview with forward Broncos, in which he said he had resigned for a recent breach of the NRL’s coronavirus protocols.
Pangai was arrested two weeks ago while opening a hair salon in Brisbane and later admitted to the NRL Integrity Unit that he had breached protocols on multiple occasions, putting competition at risk.

He has been resigned indefinitely and received official notice of violations from the NRL. The Broncos are preparing to report a second violation to him and he faces the possibility of his contract being torn apart.
In the extensive interview with James Hooper of the Fox League, Pangai appears contrite and apologizes for his actions and even declares that he wants to stay with Red Hill and play for the club.
That’s despite the fact that he also recently called rival clubs to get away from the worried Broncos.

Alexander didn’t benefit from it.
“The Broncos know better than we what kind of character they have in Tevita Pangai. I think I have a good idea of the character they are, ”Alexander told Fox League after watching the Pangai interview.
“The longer I’ve seen the interview tonight … I felt a little sorry for Tevita, but saw it and wondered why (the interview) was happening. It smells like a PR exercise to me.
“He’s trying to publicly improve his image and improve this position. (The notification of violations) still hasn’t hit the board so he’s probably trying to win favor.
“But why doesn’t he do that with the board? Why doesn’t he present this information to the board? Why did they wait two weeks and get there where Tevita breaks his silence through the media?
“It’s been two weeks now. Do you want him or don’t you want him? I don’t think they want him.
“It seems like they are doing their best to fire him.”
Anasta was just as tough on the wanton young Broncos star.
He believes Pangai’s interview was designed to look contrite and remorseful for his actions, but Anasta doesn’t believe it for a second.
“It seems like a desperate request from him and his team to save his career with the Broncos and also try to improve his reputation so he can maybe find another club,” said Anasta.
“I just think it’s lip service at the moment. I don’t believe it as such and when I speak to people within the Broncos organization I think many of them have had enough of him.
“It’s tough because he’s young and we all make mistakes … but as Brandy says, talk to the board, talk to the players.
“When he was asked about Seibold and he liked to play under him, he said that was not my decision. There has to be a break there … you play for your first grade coach.
“Sometimes as a club you have to set the tone and make the call. You have to go in a certain direction and go guys, jump on board, we don’t put up with this crap anymore.
“So it feels like the Broncos made that decision. He is not a team player. “
Alexander agreed.
“Ultimately, they think so too. He’s not a team player, ”said Alexander.
“I don’t know if he will be a good influence on the rest of the team next year so do your best to disconnect from him.
“I don’t know if I believe what he’s saying now.”
