After the Grand Slams, the most prestigious event in tennis is the ATP Finals. It is held at the end of each year and is played by the best 8 players. However, this year’s edition of the event was complicated due to the coronavirus pandemic. There have been very few tournaments this year and therefore the ATP had to change the ranking system. So, in this new system, Novak Djokovic has already qualified for the event and can move up a spot on the all-time list.
Novak Djokovic can tie Andre Agassi
In the all-time list for the most appearances in the ATP finals, Roger Federer is in first place with 17. In second place is Andre Agassi with 13 and third Novak Djokovic with 12.
Clearly, Novak can tie Agassi by playing the 2020 ATP Finals which will start on November 15th. However, there are always chances of a player getting injured and Novak is no different. This has never happened to him so far when he qualified for the finals and hopes the trend continues. Right now, however, the Serbian’s main focus is on upcoming events, especially the US Open.
In recent weeks, the US Open has seen many players withdraw from the event and there was a possibility that Novak would do the same. He wasn’t happy with the restrictions there and felt it would be “impossible” to play with them. He even threatened to skip the tournament.
However, after much consideration, the Serbian finally decided to play the event, which was great news for the fans. He is training hard right now for the tournament which starts on August 31st. Hopefully, he will win his 4th title there and also win the ATP finals when he plays there in November.
