Novak Djokovic equals Roger Federer’s single record at the Western & Southern Open

What record did Novak Djokovic equal?

In a fairly easy match, Djokovic knocked out Struff 6-3 6-1 in a 62-minute match. With that, Djokovic reached a record eighth semi-final at the Western & Southern Open. Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer, Stefan Edberg and Bill Talbert are the other players of this exclusive club.

“It was great … I started a little tight in my first two serving games. Since taking that break at the start of the first set, I’ve never looked back. I’ve played really very aggressively every once I had the chance and was looking for my shots “, Djokovic said after the game.

Djokovic reached six finals in the tournament and won his first title in 2018 in what was called the Cincinnati Open, where he defeated Federer. Winning the Cincinnati Open in 2018 made Djokovic the first player in history to win all nine Masters 1000 titles.

Another record that Djokovic could match is the most Masters 1000 titles, a record held by Rafael Nadal. Nadal has won 35 Masters titles while Djokovic has 34. If he lifts the trophy, he will equal that count too.

Djokovic faces Roberto Bautista Agut

The next on Djokovic’s path will be Roberto Bautista Agut. The world number 12 defeated the defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals. Agut performed exceptionally well and looked very good against the Russian. Djokovic leads the head to head against Agut 8-3. The last time they faced each other was in the 2019 Wimbledon semi-final. Djokovic won that match in four sets.

The other half of the tournament will see Stefanos Tsitsipas face Milos Raonic. Tsitsipas is now the second favorite to win the tournament after Djokovic. Only time will tell if Tsitsipas will be able to challenge the Serbian.
