Non-professional footballers, against competing from 2021

The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) said yesterday that its non-professional members “do not consider it appropriate to return to competition from January 2021”, as the RFEF can raise today in the various territorial federations due to the situation which has generated the coronavirus. At the same time, he demanded that his contracts be respected “at all times” “whatever the decision taken.”

The AFE issued a statement before the “imminent and momentous meeting” convened today by the RFEF to see how and when official non-professional competitions can resume due to the current situation with the coronavirus, to “express its position and raise different proposals as a union representative of thousands of footballers.

Thus, the union pointed out that “the footballers of Second Division B, Third Division, First Women’s and Second Women’s believe that the time has come to truly professionalize these categories, with employment contracts that truly recognize their dedication to football” and that these groups “are clear that health is the first in the current situation”, but that they do not see it “appropriate to return to competition from January 2021”. “You can’t afford to be out of play for several months because a lot of families depend on the income they receive,” he added.
