NBA: Players protest police violence

Absence as a statement: The NBA professionals have become politicized and no longer play along to protest against racist police violence.

Another African American victim of police violence. Now professional athletes are reacting with a drastic protest: The NBA is paralyzed, and the leagues in baseball and soccer have to interrupt.

Et was a delicate undertaking from the start, even if it looked like a relaxed detour to an idyllic holiday region. The entertainment cartel, which operates under the abbreviation NBA and turns over billions with the sporting performances of a small group of highly talented basketball players, wanted to continue the season that was interrupted due to a life-threatening pandemic and – isolated from the rest of the world – to pull through something like a manageable game operation.

The concept might have worked if there was only one massive crisis in the United States at the moment, which also endangers the health of the mostly black professionals. But when the players saw the video footage from Kenosha, the 100,000-inhabitant city halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, on Monday, it was clear to them that the isolation on the quarantine island of Walt Disney World was an illusion. A few thousand kilometers from Orlando, a white police officer had once again illustrated in an act of unrestrained violence why NBA professionals have been openly committed to the political campaign against the brutality of American law enforcement officers with the slogan “Black Lives Matter” for months.
