Manchester United prospects for Huddersfield Town fans to watch in friendly after transfer links

Huddersfield Town fans have few youngsters to watch out for in this afternoon’s friendly against Manchester United’s under-23s, including a couple of alleged transfer goals that could stand up for the opposition.

First, center-back Di’Shon Bernard may be in action for Neil Wood’s team at John Smith’s Stadium.

The 19-year-old, who was previously on the books at Chelsea, made his senior debut for United in the Europa League group stage in November.

The city already has numerous center-backs in the squad, but Tommy Elphick and Terence Kongolo are both recovering from long-term injuries, while Christopher Schindler and Rarmani Edmonds-Green both missed Wednesday afternoon’s friendly against Bradford City with shots of their own.

The club is also believed to be in the market for a more dynamic defender than their current more senior options as they seek to rebuild the squad in Corberan’s image.

It’s possible Bernard may fit well into that mold and Town is known to be interested in him, although the extent to which they are actively pursuing a deal for him right now is unclear.

The official Manchester United website also reports that James Garner is back with the under 23s who joined the senior squad for the Europa League knockout matches earlier this month.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been on the fringes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team this season, making four appearances in the early stages of the competition and landing a brief run-out in each of the Premier League and La Carabao Cup last season.

The Terriers are currently running out of center midfield options with Jonathan Hogg and Lewis O’Brien injured, though hopefully both will be available again in the coming weeks.

However, Garner could prove to be a useful option for Town later in the season if a deal is pursued and made.

He has experience playing in a defensive midfield role which looks like he could be so pivotal in building the game from the back with Corberan’s new system.

If Town tries to strike a deal, he will reportedly face competition for Garner’s signing if they want to borrow him with Swansea City which is said to be interested.
