Man Utd Transfer News: United Launch Surprise Investigation For Tottenham Target Matt Doherty | Football | Sport

Manchester United has reportedly launched a surprise investigation for Wolves full-back Matt Doherty. The Republic of Ireland international is set to complete the move to Tottenham this weekend before joining his new teammates after the international break.

Doherty has enjoyed two impressive Premier League campaigns since Wolves marked a return to the top flight in 2018.

He has been a mainstay under Nuno Espirito Santo and has spent over ten years with the club since joining the Bohemians in 2010 for £ 75k.

Tottenham have signed a deal worth around £ 15m and will become the club’s fourth summer signing alongside new teammates Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Alfie Devine and Joe Hart.

Doherty was Jose Mourinho’s main target as a right-back and is equally comfortable as a right-back where he thrived for the Wolves.

Doherty is rumored to have been convinced to stay another year at the Wolves as they reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

United have signed Wan-Bissaka in a £ 45m contract from Crystal Palace following his notable rise to prominence in South London.

Doherty has been on holiday in Sardinia after the 1-0 defeat to Sevilla, but has now returned to the UK to secure the move to Tottenham.

He will have to undergo medical treatment this weekend before joining Stephen Kenny’s Irish team ahead of Nations League matches with Bulgaria and Finland.

Tottenham are expected to switch to Serge Aurier upon completion of the deal.

The Ivorian is in talks with Milan for an agreement despite the interest of Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.

Max Aarons was the board’s favorite pick as right back in the summer transfer window.

However, Mourinho is said to have raised concerns about the player’s height before Doherty was intended as an official target.
