Liverpool transfer recap: Barca target Sadio Mane to replace Lionel Messi

The 2020/21 season in Liverpool begins on Saturday with the Community Shield against Arsenal.

Two weeks later they begin their defense of the Premier League title with a home game against Leeds United.

Despite the upcoming new campaign, there was very little transfer business in Anfield, at least in terms of signings.

Kostas Tsimikas joined from Olympiacos, but he was the only new boy to have put pen on paper so far.

However, it is rumored that many players are moving to the red half of Merseyside – as always.

The spending may not have ended either. Here is a selection of the latest Liverpool transfer rumors that are making the rounds.

Barca target mane to replace Messi

Barcelona could offer Sadio Mane more than £ 100m as they seek a replacement for Lionel Messi

The most important transfer story in football right now is undoubtedly Lionel Messi’s announcement that he is leaving Barcelona.

There are very few clubs that could afford to pay the salary of arguably the greatest player of all time, even if he is legally entitled to leave the Catalan club on a free transfer under a contractual agreement.

He will be impossible to replace but Barca will obviously have to do their best to do so. And according to TMW, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane could be the man they choose to take on the job of taking on Messi, according to Sport.

They are reportedly ready to offer € 120m, which would certainly give the Reds food for thought, even if Mane has proven to be a key cornerstone of their success lately.

The Bavarians were preparing for the exodus with the Thiago saga, which has yet to be solved

Liverpool are reportedly ready to rush for Thiago Alcantara

Bayern Munich had an incredible 2019/20 season that resulted in them beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Champions League final last weekend.

But their squad is facing a change before the coming season.

Phillipe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic have returned to their parent clubs and it’s safe to assume the Thiago Alcantara transfer saga is far from over.

Will he land in Anfield anyway? Bild’s Christian Falk has reported that Liverpool are now ready to go for the Spaniard. If this turns out to be the case, then maybe he will.

Celtic sign Red’s defender?

Ki-Jana Hoever could be on her way to Celtic

After Celtic was knocked out of the 2020/21 Champions League before most people even realized it had started, Neil Lennon is looking to improve his defensive options.

Read Celtic report that a Dutch defender from Liverpool is on their wish list. Fear not, Kopites, Virgil van Dijk will not be returning to his former club.

But 18-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever could be on loan for the season on the way north of the border.

He has only played four games for the Reds so far, so he needs more football for the first team so that he can develop further.

During his early days at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp was more than happy to give the club’s young players playing time as he assessed the options he had in the Reds’ ranks.

Ovie Ejaria was one of those players when he made eight appearances for the club in 2016-17.

He has since loaned his time out at Sunderland, Rangers and Reading, and according to Read Liverpool he is on the verge of moving to the latter permanently.

Ejaria scored three goals and five assists for the Royals in the championship last season.
