Leeds United plot move for Arsenal ace, described by Mikel Arteta as ‘really, really good’

The silly season has really started on Elland Road.

After Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League, the club has been connected to every man and his dog, with each bond ranging from sublime to ridiculous.

With players like Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among those “targeted”, we are starting to see how the transfer window can get a little out of hand.

That said, there is still some serious business to be done in West Yorkshire.

While Marcelo Bielsa will likely maintain confidence with much of the squad that secured promotion last season, there is no doubt that some additions will still be needed.

Athletic have said the Whites are targeting four or five players with Premier League or Championship experience.

But with many players already connected, it remains to be seen who will see the club as their primary goals.

However, if the latest news is to be believed, the club seems to be aiming high.

The Daily Mail said Rob Holding is one of the players on Leeds’ roster.

The Whites are definitely looking for a new center this summer, with Ben White being the top priority.

However, with Leeds reportedly turning down two offers for the Brighton man, it looks like alternatives may be lined up.

While a permanent deal for the Arsenal man is unlikely to materialize, a loan change could be an ideal deal for all parties.

It is claimed that the Gunners would be open to bids for the former Bolton Wanderers man, which means they are unlikely to get in his way if Leeds were to move in for him.

But speaking in January, Mikel Arteta insisted that the player was part of his long-term plans.

He said: “He is a very interesting player, very focused, very determined and very willing to learn.

“Obviously the fact that he’s been out for so long, he’s missing the competition now and he’s missing that pace.

“We must try to give him as much as possible to help him. There were a few moments where it looked really, really good.

“He is a player who will be very valuable to us.”

Phil Spencer of GIVEMESPORT says …

Rob Holding would be a great signing for Leeds United.

While I understand why Ben White is the central defender’s main target, a move for the Arsenal man could be very shrewd in strengthening their defensive line.

With Premier League experience, the former Bolton would undoubtedly hit the running ground at Elland Road, and after practicing his craft with the Gunners he will almost certainly fit Marcelo Bielsa’s philosophy of playing from behind,

A loan change means a move would be low-risk and to be honest I would be tempted to involve both players as both Holding and White can also provide cover in defensive midfield.

This is certainly one to watch, in my opinion.
