Lampard hopes that injury debutant Ziyech will be better than expected: “He was great at times” | NOW

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard hopes that Hakim Ziyech will not be sidelined for too long with the injury he sustained on Saturday. The playmaker, who came over from Ajax, dropped out on his unofficial debut.

27-year-old Ziyech had to be replaced during the 53rd minute of the exhibition game with Brighton & Hove Albion after he had already undergone injury treatment shortly before.

“He has a bit of trouble with his knee. We will have to wait and see what exactly is going on. Hopefully it will be okay. In any case, he played very well. His actions and passes were great at times,” said Lampard.

The exhibition game in Brighton ended in 1-1. Ziyech led the early opening goal of Timo Werner – the striker also makes his unofficial Chelsea debut – with a nice pass.

Ziyech and Werner are two of Chelsea’s big summer buys, which have further bolstered with defenders Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sar. Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz may also come to Stamford Bridge.

It is not yet known whether the start of the Premier League season is in danger for Ziyech. Chelsea will again visit Brighton in the first round on 14 September.
