Jason Castro “close” to the trade

The padres have acquired catchers Jason Castro from the angels, approved Ken Rosenthal from The Athletic. The 33-year-old veteran was the first to be scraped out of today’s game due to growing commercial interest reported by Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The return to the angels in the deal is not yet known.

Castro will travel to San Diego to supplement Austin Hedges in the catch mix of the padres. The move means more win-now aggression on the part of San Diego. You’ve been busy this trading season and have already done business for Reliever Trevor Rosenthal and first baseman Mitch Moreland this weekend.

There’s more to come.
