It’s early … but Aldon Smith is already making a good impression at Cowboys training camp

Training camp is back.

Good kind of. It is by no means what we are used to, but we will take it. While we do not receive the live action videos from the media, fans along the sideline at Oxnard or the mothership, we do receive ratings after practice and from players / pieces that stood out.

With very little to do, it was nice to see an individual show up to their first training camp since 2015. Aldon Smith.

There are several reasons why this matters to the Dallas Cowboys. The first is that some people didn’t even think Smith would make it to training camp with the Cowboys. When the team signed him up for an incentive earlier in the offseason, there were some people who didn’t expect Smith to ever don a Cowboys helmet. The second reason is that other people didn’t think Smith would still have a lot of gas in the tank, as he was now on the wrong side for 30 years and had been away from the game since 2015. From the sounds, Smith has really looked good in the little bit he’s been on the pitch.

Now, once again, you have to remember that these are the first exercises of training camp, and normally everyone has their rose-colored glasses. But if Aldon Smith is able to give away even half of what he was in San Francisco years ago, the Cowboys are rushing with newly acquired DeMarcus Lawrence, Gerald McCoy, Tyrone Crawford and Everson Griffen, could become one of the best leagues. pass the rushing units.

Reports say Smith has always had a bang, speed and explosiveness with this 6’6 ” frame. This is exactly why the Cowboys took the risk they did with Smith, signing him in April. Low risk, high reward.

Although it’s early and it’s just practice at training camp, it’s always nice to see some signs of Aldon Smith making a difference. Let’s just hope he can stray in good health, both physically and mentally, in 2020.
