Interception boosts Lamar Jackson in Ravens melee

BALTIMORE – Lamar Jackson only looked like the reigning NFL MVP after throwing a nasty interception in the Ravens’ intrasquad scrum on Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

Jackson completed 14 of 26 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, but he finished on a hot streak after being knocked out by undrafted rookie Nigel Warrior on a deep, under-drawn pass.

Shaking off that turnover, he’s logged on six of his last 8 passes for two touchdowns, including a 40-yard pass to Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. Rushing to his right, Jackson uncorked the deep throw at Brown in the end zone.

“We’ve seen a lot of that in practice,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said of the Jackson-Brown connection.

Jackson also pulled a 14-yard touchdown to tight end Mark Andrews to end his night. Baltimore’s offense beat the defense 27-22.

“We’re not quite ready,” said running back Mark Ingram. “We still have a long way to go to become the team we want to be.”

Harbaugh was not happy with the handful of false starts.

“These are the kinds of things we have to clean up because winning football is not losing football first,” he said. “This is what we have to get into our DNA.”

The Ravens, who finished 14-2 better last season, opened against the Cleveland Browns on September 13.
