“I’m going to end up in the record books”: Stefanos Tsitsipas jokes about taking on taller players

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a great start to the resumption of the season as he returned to the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open also known as the Cincinnati Open.

Stefanos has yet to release a set and he looked solid. In the 2nd round, he defeated Kevin Anderson 6-1 6-3. In the 3rd round, he defeated John Isner 7-6 7-6. Now he will face Reilly Opelka.

Interestingly, the opponents he has faced and will face are one of the tallest players in history. In the 2nd round, he faced the 6 foot 8 inches tall Kevin Anderson. Improving that, he played the next John Isner who is 6 feet 10 inches. And today he will play Reilly Opelka, the tallest tennis player in history with a height of 6 feet 11 inches.

“I played three players taller than seven feet in less than four days” – Stefanos Tsitsipas

Tsitsipas realized this too and had a good laugh. After his match against Isner, Tsitsipas claimed should be in the record books for playing consecutive games against tall players on the ATP tour.

“This is pretty crazy. I played three players taller than seven feet in less than four days. So so far it’s turning into a very interesting week. “ Tsitsipas said

“Will I be able to make it into the record books for playing the top players in consecutive ATP, one after the other? I have to check. I don’t think this has ever happened before. “ He added

An interesting and fun coincidence for Tsitsipas indeed.

Looking into his match, one thing Tsitsipas would like is to break Opelka’s serve in the next match. Tsitsipas couldn’t get a single break in the match against Isner and therefore will work on that as Opelka is a very strong server. Opelka played Diego Schwartzman in the last round and was unbeatable in the service. Tsitsipas will be looking to move forward in the tournament as his side of the draw got easier with the exits of Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Matteo Berrettini.
