“I started quite with nothing”: Stefanos Tsitsipas reveals childhood problems due to the recession

Stefanos Tsitsipas was one of the next young talents on the ATP tour. He is from Greece and had a lot of problems before turning pro. Difficult situations shaped and matured Greek before its age.

After his victory in the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open, Tsitsipas was questioned about his childhood. Tsitsipas recounted how the recession in the Greek economy upset him. He has always dreamed of traveling around the world and becoming a professional tennis player, but the financial crisis has brought obstacles in the path to making those dreams come true.

“I started with practically nothing. There came a time when I turned 12, 13 and had to travel and I wanted to pursue this dream of traveling around the world and potentially becoming a professional tennis player someday. “ Tsitsipas said

“It was then that the Greek crisis broke out. That was exactly the time. So this made it so difficult for me. My father quit his job, he quit everything, he started traveling with me, without income. “ Tsitsipas added

Stefanos Tsitsipas on how the situation has changed him

This situation made Tsitsipas stronger and tougher. Looking around, Tsitsipas saw people desperate for money. And so he always wanted to help his country and become an ambassador to show the qualities of his country.
