The Chelsea stars of tomorrow are already honing their skills using the Blues’ revolutionary new augmented reality mobile app.

Stamford Bridge Club Junior Academy players use the Perfect Play app to complete their training.

Academy graduate Reece James provided the first digital masterclass for the instrument which is now available for anyone to download.

The new app uses video tracking technology to map user space and return perfect performance and capacity data across a variety of individual or team challenges.

Chelsea academy staff and developers have been working since December 2018 on a product launched this week, which they believe will take youth education to a whole new digital level.

Our goal is to stay at the forefront of what is happening in global academy football, we always aspire to be a world leader.

Chelsea U11 manager Sam Page helped stars like Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham climb the ranks of Stamford Bridge and took a leading role in the new app.

“We actually used the app before with our Academy players and it was a really cool part of our home learning programs that we developed during the lockdown of the pandemic,” Page said.

“This has been a really exciting opportunity for us with Perfect Play and we have offered the trial version of the app to our U9 to U13 Academy players as part of their home learning program.

“They tested it for us and put it on as part of their program, so we got really positive feedback and were able to make some refinements.

“For me the memory of Mason scoring against Leicester in the first game, I have been to many games at Stamford Bridge but it is a very special memory for me.

Product owner Steve Didd will continue to work with Chelsea to refine an app that he believes will help fundamentally change overall sports training.

“The technology will be hugely influential in terms of how people train, and it’s something we’re extremely excited to offer within Perfect Play,” said Didd.

“Our goal with the product is to make children better footballers and this technology allows us to show them that they are improving because it captures their performance.

“Kids are very tech savvy now, but it should be extremely intuitive to set up and use and we believe it will become an essential part of forward football training.

“We are adopting elite academic methodologies that have been developed over decades, digitizing them and enabling children to have the same type of training, which would not be accessible elsewhere. So it is there to help children improve and gain an advantage.

“We already have a masterclass in the app with Reece James.

“We are very involved with the men and women of the first team and with the academy boys who are present. And we will do more masterclasses with players from both the men’s and women’s teams.”
